Scarlet and white
Scarlet and white.
A spray of delicate drops
On the harsh snow.
No one asked
For the artful display.
No one admired it either.
No, not a single
Person paused to look,
To appreciate,
To understand.
Why do people fear me so?
I am the elixir of life,
And yet I am the symbol of death.
What do you fear
In a bit of harmless red?
If not for me,
The cold would sting you,
The wind would bite you,
The sun would wither you.
When I am gone,
You are without life,
Without warmth,
Without h…

Tonight at Trump International Hotel & Tower Casino in Las Vegas, professional boxing ring announcer and former child-star Michael Buffer took a lady-like swing at super heavy-weight boxer Fat Bastard. Fat Bastard absorbed the punch by blocking the blow with his opponent, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog’s face.
The incident happened when the referee, Jackie Justice, called the two fighters to the center of the ring. Michael Buffer started to chime in with his familiar phrase, “Let’s Get Ready…

Many publishing houses do no longer accept manuscripts that have not first been dealt with by an agent. These are called unsolicited manuscripts. This often makes it harder to get past the first hurdle when sending your work out to be considered and brings in a whole new level of complication in finding an agent you can trust.
However, I recently spotted on the Pan Macmillan site that they have an area for authors who have written a book for adults (this does not include young adults) and has n…

It has been said that anyone who has lived in a city for 40 days becomes a citizen of it. This saying refers to the awareness and familiarity people develop when they dwell in a new environment. When it comes to me, I have been in Omaha for twelve consecutive seasons, experiencing its harsh winters, its unbearably humid summers, its reawakening springs and witnessing the bright colored leaves of the trees withering and then falling in unison to the ground. Nevertheless, I am not very familiar wi…

So. Let's start with what an interior monologue really is. It's a nice fat chunk of text of thought -- that is, a narrative of exactly what is going on in a character's head. These can be tricky to pull off successfully for two reasons. First, just like it's a struggle for even great writers to reproduce authentic sounding dialogue, it's just as hard to create an authentic-sounding interior dialogue. Because when we're thinking, that's really what's going on -- we're talking to ourselves silentl…

She knocked him to the ground. She knew he'd let her do it. He was far stronger than she and he had gone down too easily. She sat on his stomach, and he smiled up at her, his expression soft as he settled one hand under his head and the other at her waist. Gripping his arm lightly, she gazed into his eyes, seeing the love there – the love that none but her had been able to capture, if she was to believe what he had told her.
And she did believe him. He had no reason…
