Question and Answer with JOYCE ANTHONY

1) What makes Joyce Anthony tick?

If I had to pick one word, it would be passion. I put all I have into whatever I believe in--whether it is fighting for the rights of children and animals or improving social conditions for the homeless or those with emotional illnesses.

I have never done anything half-way--whether it involves love, anger or any other emotion.

People can see all I stand for in what I write--I write what I feel and feel what I write. Hopefully, others can find something in my words to bring hope and comfort.

2) You live a busy lifestyle. How does that influence your writing?

I don't have as much time as I'd like to actually work on the projects that are closest to me, but I find bits and pieces of time to get it in. Some days--okay most days--I grab 3 or 4 hours of sleep and wish I could avoid them and keep working. I take advantage of the rare free time I squeeze in to write.

I live by the philosophy that if something is important to you, you don't find time--you make it. So far, I always manage to fit one more project in :-)

3) Would you say life imitates art or that art imitates life? Why?

Honestly, I think life and art are one and the same--at least in my eyes. They are so intertwined that neither would be complete without the other.

The beauty in my art--my words--reflects the beauty that is my life. My life and how I live it each day reflects the beauty and passion in my words.

Maybe this is not so for others, but I can't separate the two.

4) Tell us a bit about your book, Storm.

Storm is an inspirational book that touches on many of the "hidden" issues facing society today. It focuses on what I consider the "forgotten" people in society--those people all know exist but avoid, in hopes they'll go away. A few of the issues Storm touches on are child molestation, homelessness, mental health issues and homosexuality.

Storm, the main character, meets these people with a pure, non-judgmental heart and listens to their stories. He sees the humans behind the issues and helps them see the God light within themselves.

5) What do you think makes your book special? Memorable?

There is not one person who reads Storm who will not find a character they can relate to. They will recognize people they see every day within the pages of this book--and will find their entire outlook changing as they read. I fully believe Storm can open minds and hearts.

If you stop by http://joyceanthony.tripod.com/ you can meet some of the characters and read an excerpt and some reviews :-)

6) Do you have any other works in the making? Tell us about them.

I am currently working on two projects.

Spirit of the Stallion is a nonfiction book. It is in the editing stages at this point. This book is divided into three parts.

Part One is the story of my son--a child with bipolar disorder, Asperger's Syndrome and OCD. It details the pain and suffering he went through for so many years--and takes the reader from the that pain, through the suffering and into the sunshine that he eventually has emerged into. His story is truly inspirational.

The Second and Third parts are directed to parents of children with emotional disorders and toward others, such as teachers, mental health workers and law enforcement officials, who deal with these children.

I had to navigate the system blindly. So many of those who dealt with our family were at a loss because the information isn't out there. I'm hoping this book will make it easier for those children and adults who are still looking for a clearer path.

Shattered Rainbow is an even harder one to write than Spirit. It follows the life of one woman from the age of three into her 40s. The issues covered in the book include childhood rape, alcoholism, mental illness, drugs, physical and emotional abuse and a couple other issues.

7) Lastly, what advice do you have for our writing readers?

Allow your heart to lead your writing. If you can't believe in your writing, others won't be able to. Don't give up--for God put the words in your heart --and the world needs to hear what you have to say. You will succeed as long as you keep that faith in yourself and what you write.

I love hearing from people--whether it is a thought or a question. You can email me at

Question and Answer with CONNIE ARNOLD

Today, we're getting to know CONNIE ARNOLD, Christian devotions, poetry, and children's lit author. She's an inspiration to many and here's why...

1) How did you get started as an author?
The first writing I did (other than in school) was the text for music that I composed. I did that for many years before writing poetry without music. Once I shared some and received a great deal of positive feedback from others, I was on my way!

2) What is the most inspirational part of your writing career?
The close connection I feel with God when I'm writing is to me the most inspirational. If I try to write something without first praying and being open to inspiration, it will never touch people's hearts and souls like things that I'm inspired to write. When the writing is inspired, the words seem to pulse and flow from within.

3) What is the most important part of the writing process, in your opinion?
In my experience, the most important thing is the silence, prayer and meditation before I begin to write.

4) No
w, let's talk about your book. What makes your book special?
Those reading Abiding Hope and Love have told me that the poems give them hope, comfort and peace, and are uplifting and encouraging. Life can be extremely hard at times. We all have our challenges to face. One of my challenges is living with lupus, which causes many problems in my life, such as the daily fatigue and pain. Looking for the beauty and positive things in life make living a joy in spite of the difficulties, and this is what the poems offer to others.

5) Give readers three benefits of reading your book.
---The reader can bask in the light of God's love.

---It helps to lift the spirits when someone is going through a rough time in life.

---Joy can be experienced through reading the poems about hope, love, children, music, the Bible and nature.
