All the guidelines I;ve found on writing a young adult fantasy fiction novel is 60,000 - 70,000 words but I don't know if this is a strict rule. There are all sorts of factors like amount of shelf space a larger book would take up and if the publishers can afford to give up that much space to a new novelist (or so I'm led to believe).
